Let’s sing together our song “Rise and Shine – Welcome to School Today” by Dr. Jean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyAD2OoFuoY and our greeting song “Hello to all the children of the world”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nYjGy_ZUG8

I realize that you might have to survey other members of your family for the question of the day so that your child have enough tally marks to count or have your child put more than one tally mark.

What is your favorite color?
Blue Red Yellow Green Pink Purple …….

You might also want to only draw a circle of each color to let your child tell you which color it is. It is an easy review!

The next step is help your child own the rules by making a poster of your positive and safe learning environment rules. On my poster, I wrote the rules in capital letters and glued different parts of Mr. Potato Head. You can brainstorm with your child what to use like pictures or toys.

Quiet voices – Red lips

Listening hears – Blue ears

Helping hands – White gloved hands

Walking feet – Blue Feet

Science

On the tune of “Clementine”, we can sing: what’s the weather, what’s the weather, what’s the weather like today? Is it cloudy, is it rainy, is it sunny, is it cold? (You can also change the words).
Let your child check the weather and tell you about it. You might want to ask your child to do a weather drawing that you can label. Some activities will be repetitive to create a routine that brings comfort to your child.

Language Arts

We will do lots of review of what your child already know and will extend that knowledge with a social-emotional aspect to it. Here is The Crayon Box That Talked by Shane DeRolf https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiXNuYOWDtY After viewing the book, review the story with your child. You can focus on:

The sequencing of the story and what the crayons felt. The crayons worked together and were happy with the beautiful picture.

review the primary and secondary colors, extend asking what if you mix colors! You might want to design a science experiment with watercolor for your child.

You can review singing the “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” Song and “Open, Shut Them” rhyme, as well as “The More We Get Together” Song with movement https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lldmkrJXQ-E

Math

Daily counting of tally marks and the counters you put in a container is an excellent practice for your child’s mathematical skills. The numbers of the tallies will be different every day and you can also change the counters. Extend the concept by comparing numbers: which has more? Which has less? Which are the same?

Art

For art projects, allow your child to discover the supplies you put together. I always had the easel with watercolor/acrylic paint available in the classroom, as well as paper/scissors/crayons/tape/glue on a table. What a creative child!

For this art project, we will paint your child’s hand with acrylic paint and awaken your child’s senses. You might hear: “It tickles or it is cold.“

We will paint a crayon box with your child’s hand and you need acrylic paint, paper and a marker.

Directions:

Paint each finger of one hand a different color acrylic paint

Paint the palm yellow

Make a print with your child’s hand on paper

Write Crayon Box on the palm print once dry.

You child might want to explore further and ask to have second hand painted. He/She might further decide to put both hands together and see what color he/she can make. Have fun!

Small Motor Skills

Crayons Coloring Page https://twistynoodle.com/crayons-coloring-page/
Crayon Dot Painting https://twistynoodle.com/crayon-dot-painting-coloring-page/

Crayon Puzzle https://twistynoodle.com/crayon-puzzle-coloring-page/

Colors Book https://twistynoodle.com/colors-4-minibook/

Gross Motor Skills

Outside time with climbing, jumping, bicycling, running, walking are great ways to develop the whole child.

Body Bop Bop Dance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGi3f_fHIzg&list=PLQiKLJnked47BRBde6PBFwhya4EGoCdTN&index=11&t=0s

Bonjour!
