I realize that you might have to survey other members of your family for the question of the day<\/strong> so that your child have enough tally marks to count or have your child put more than one tally mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are ready to start learning letters! The<\/strong> Handwriting Without Tears<\/strong> methodology encourage children to start writing letters at the top<\/strong> with a song https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BJnZePnDo-U<\/a> You will often see a smiley face \ud83d\ude42 where your child has to start writing a letter. I would recommend practicing with the number 1 on page 77<\/strong> and 78<\/strong> of My First School Book<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the writing\/reading process,<\/strong> have your child trace or copy (advanced skill) daily<\/strong> his\/her name on paper\/dry eraser board\/ mini blackboard (kindergarten handwriting page) starting at the top of each letter, either in all uppercase letters or just first letter in uppercase and the rest in lowercase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have My First School Book <\/strong>from Handwriting Without Tears<\/strong> methodology, we will use it. https:\/\/www.lwtears.com\/hwt<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In order to start learning letters, your child will need a set of big curves, little curves, big lines and little lines in wood.<\/strong> You can purchase them at https:\/\/www.lwtears.com<\/a> or make them your self. In case you have started checking your child\u2019s Readiness<\/strong> for the program, you might want to finish by working together and filling in pages 92-93 in My First School Book. <\/strong>This evaluation will show your child\u2019s strengths and weaknesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Science<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On the tune of \u201cClementine\u201d, we can sing: what\u2019s the weather, what\u2019s the weather, what\u2019s the weather like today? Is it cloudy, is it rainy, is it sunny, is it cold?<\/strong> (You can also change the weather words).
Let your child check the weather and tell you about it. You might want to ask your child to do a weather drawing that you can label. Some activities will be repetitive to create a routine that brings comfort to your child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With temperatures getting cooler, I recommend you have a big thermometer<\/strong>. You can check the temperature every day with your child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Language Arts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After viewing the book, help your child to remember what happened in the story. Brainstorm how many cousins your child has and what is your child\u2019s favorite activities with cousins\/friends. As a result, your child might want to draw a picture for a cousin\/friend that your child could give or you could mail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Math<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Daily counting of tally marks<\/strong> and the counters<\/strong> you put in a container is an excellent practice for your child\u2019s mathematical skills. Once tallied or counted, show your child the appropriate number card or write the number down to show your child. The numbers of the tallies will be different every day and you can also change the counters. Extend the concept by comparing numbers: which has more? Which has fewer? Which are the same?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The calendar<\/strong> is a daily<\/strong> activity to do with your child that develop number and pattern recognition. Here is the link to print a calendar to update daily with your child. Art<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For a Watercolor Painting Art<\/strong> Project, you need (1) paper, (2) brush, and (3) watercolor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your child is ready to create a masterpiece. You could put the paper on a vertical surface in order to let the watercolor drip down the paper like a waterfall. What fun!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this Engineering Project<\/strong>, you need, (1) recyclables (toilet paper rolls, yogurt cups, cardboard, magazines,…), (2) scissors, (3) tape, (4) glue, (5) crayons\/markers. Let your child tell you what he\/she will build. You might need to help with scissors and tape. At the end, ask your child what he\/she engineered! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
