I realize that you might have to survey other members of your family for the question of the day<\/strong> so that your child have enough tally marks to count or have your child put more than one tally mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are community helpers?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the writing\/reading process,<\/strong> have your child trace or copy (advanced skill) daily<\/strong> his\/her name on paper\/dry eraser board\/ mini blackboard (kindergarten handwriting page) starting at the top of each letter, either in all uppercase letters or just first letter in uppercase and the rest in lowercase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us start with Firefighter Fred <\/strong>from Letterland<\/strong> and listen to the song: <\/a> https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=SQbFjujR00o<\/a> After listening, show your child how to write a capital F and a lower case f (advanced) starting at the top (https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BJnZePnDo-U<\/a>). Have your child first trace the letter(s) you wrote with one finger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the phonetic<\/strong> part, have a big yogurt container with a lid filled with small objects or pictures that start with the letter F (Face, fall, farm, fence, five, flag). You might want to add a picture of a ball, so that your child can say that ball does not start with F ! Science<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For this science experiment<\/strong>, you need (1) a bowl, (2) water<\/strong> and (3) corn starch<\/strong>. Pour about 2 cups of corn starch in a bowl and add some water. Let your child put hands in the mixture. How does it feel? Is it a solid like a rock or a liquid like water? (It is a suspension that has 2 states of matter) https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=biAOOJgvRYI<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the tune of \u201cClementine\u201d, we can sing: what\u2019s the weather, what\u2019s the weather, what\u2019s the weather like today? Is it cloudy, is it rainy, is it sunny, is it cold?<\/strong> (You can also change the weather words).
Let your child check the weather and tell you about it. You might want to ask your child to do a weather drawing that you can label. Some activities will be repetitive to create a routine that brings comfort to your child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Language Arts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You can find lots of letter L in The Little Fire Engine<\/span> by Lois Lensky https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=H-ABWwSNEl4<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After viewing the book, help your child to sequence the story<\/strong>: what happened first, then, and at the end. This book has many details! Explain to your child that a firefighter is a community helper and brainstorm with you child other professionals that are community helpers (constructions workers, doctors, nurses, farmers, police officers, bus drivers,…) We will study different community helpers each day for 2 weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The calendar<\/strong> is a daily<\/strong> activity to do with your child that develop number and pattern recognition. Here is the link to print a calendar to update daily with your child. The set has a weather component, if you like. https:\/\/www.themailbox.com\/magazines\/september-calendar-setbr4-pages\/september-calendar-set-3<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daily counting of tally marks<\/strong> and show your child a number card or write the number down to show your child. The numbers of the tallies will be different every day. Extend the concept by comparing numbers: which has more? Which has fewer? Which are the same?<\/strong> How many more (count with fingers)?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Art<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the F for Firefighter Art Project<\/strong>, you need (1) scissors, (2) colored construction paper, (3) glue, and (4) pencils\/markers. https:\/\/www.preschoolcrafts.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/fireman-letter-f-craft-activity-homework.jpg<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Directions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. For letter F, cut 1 long yellow construction paper rectangle (Line) and 2 little rectangles (lines).<\/li>
  2. For firefighter, cut 1 black construction paper boot and glove, 1 firefighter red construction paper hat, and 1 white construction paper Round face and triangle hose.<\/li>
  3. On orange construction paper, glue all pieces together.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
