Have your child complete <strong>page 29.<\/strong> More letter H practice at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.first-school.ws\/t.asp?t=http:\/\/www.first-school.ws\/images\/word-search\/alphabet\/h.gif\">http:\/\/www.first-school.ws\/t.asp?t=http:\/\/www.first-school.ws\/images\/word-search\/alphabet\/h.gif<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A whole week activity<\/strong>:<br>For the <strong>phonetic<\/strong> part, have a big yogurt container with a lid filled with small objects or pictures that start with the letter H (hair, heart, helicopter, horse, hat.) You might want to add a picture of a kitty, so that your child can say that kitty does not start with H! Here is a book of H word pictures <a href=\"https:\/\/twistynoodle.com\/h-is-for-house-2-minibook\/\">https:\/\/twistynoodle.com\/h-is-for-house-2-minibook\/<\/a> Also, you can add new objects\/pictures starting with the letter H every day and let your child explore the container all through the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Science<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>if you have squash on hand, explore different ways your child can <strong>experiment with squash.<\/strong> Your child can use hi\/her five senses (<strong>taste, touch, smell, hear and see<\/strong>) in different ways: see if squash float or sink; smell if it smells good or bad; taste if it tastes sweet or bitter; hear if it makes a sound when dropped or banged; and touch when your child feels the inside. Have your child describe every step!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the tune of \u201cOh, my Darling Clementine\u201d, we can sing: <strong>what\u2019s the weather, what\u2019s the weather, what\u2019s the weather like today? Is it cloudy, is it rainy, is it sunny, is it cold?<\/strong> (You can also change the weather words).<br>Let your child check the weather and tell you about it. You might want to ask your child to do a weather drawing that you can label. Some activities will be repetitive to create a routine that brings comfort to your child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Language Arts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Children will see lots of squash(es) during Autumn. There are even competitions in various states for the biggest squash (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithsonianmag.com\/smart-news\/behold-worlds-largest-green-squash-180965237\/\">https:\/\/www.smithsonianmag.com\/smart-news\/behold-worlds-largest-green-squash-180965237\/<\/a>) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a funny easy story about <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Mrs. McNosh and the Great Big Squash<\/span> by Sarah Weeks. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=J3vXJW0_btM\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=J3vXJW0_btM<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is also a longer story about <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sophie\u2019s Squash<\/span> by Pat Zietlow Miller <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=i956du1TR6s\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=i956du1TR6s<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After viewing one of the stories, help your child to <strong>sequence<\/strong> the plot: what happened first, next and at the end. There are <strong>2 extension activities<\/strong> with squash, your child can help you carve a squash like Mrs. McNosh or cook a yummy treat (Kitchen Science &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allrecipes.com\/recipes\/14734\/soups-stews-and-chili\/soup\/vegetable-soup\/squash-soup\/\">https:\/\/www.allrecipes.com\/recipes\/14734\/soups-stews-and-chili\/soup\/vegetable-soup\/squash-soup\/<\/a>), or draw a face on one and decorate it, like Sophie. More ABC patterns <a href=\"https:\/\/twistynoodle.com\/copy-the-abc-patterns-coloring-page\/\">https:\/\/twistynoodle.com\/copy-the-abc-patterns-coloring-page\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>calendar<\/strong> is a <strong>daily<\/strong> activity to do with your child that develop number and pattern recognition. Here is the link to print a calendar to update daily with your child. The set has a weather component, if you like.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.themailbox.com\/magazines\/september-calendar-setbr4-pages\/september-calendar-set-3\"> https:\/\/www.themailbox.com\/magazines\/october-calendar-setbr4-pages\/october-calendar-set-3<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Daily counting of <strong>tally marks<\/strong> and show your child a number card or write the number down to show your child. The numbers of the tallies will be different every day. Extend the concept by comparing numbers: <strong>which has more? Which has fewer? Which are the same?<\/strong> <strong>How many more (count with fingers)?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Art<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For the <strong>Painted Squash Art Project<\/strong>, you need (1) squash, (2) paint, and    (3) brush. Have your child paint the squash with a brush and many different colors.
