Here is a fun video for early reader. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4ITJBasgc0

Here is a Duck Family Worksheet https://www.themailbox.com/magazines/the-duck-family/the-duck-family

Science

Why do ducks float? Let’s have an experiment! To explain buoyancy, you need (1) a bowl of water, (2) a plastic bag, (3) a rubber band.

Help your child put one hand in a plastic bag attached with a rubber band and have your child put his/her hand in the bowl of water. What happens? Is the child’s hand getting wet? It is protected by the plastic bag.

It works the same way for ducks. Their bodies are covered with feathers which trap air between feathers and their skins. It creates a balloon-like effect or buoyancy that helps the ducks float.

It is also interesting to review facts about animals and birds on the farm. If your child has a journal, you could divide a page into 2 columns: one for animals (that have babies) and one for birds (that lay eggs). Ask your child to tell you all the farm animals/birds and decide in which columns they belong and why.

Language Arts

Here is a wonderful story about a duck family: Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hy73DR493Oo

Before viewing the story, ask your child what the story is about. Recite the rhyme shown below and encourage your child to put corresponding sets of ducks on his/her pond. Then count with your child the total number of ducks in the pond. Repeat the activity as many times as you want, changing the numbers as desired. Here is the rhyme:

There were [five] little ducks on the pond one day.
[Three] more ducks came to splash and play.
How many ducks were on that pond?
What number does [five] and [three] make?

Art

For the craft activity, you need (1) pattern below
Duck Craft Pattern https://www.themailbox.com/magazines/make-a-duck-craft/05_aprpri_drops, (2) paper bag, (3) yellow and orange construction paper, (4) googley eyes, (5) glue, and (6) scissors.

Have your child cut the pattern pieces. Trace the feet, bill and both your child’s hands on orange construction paper and the body on yellow construction paper. Help your child to cut all the pieces. Then glue all pieces together on the paper bag, as well as the eyes. You made a puppet!

As a second project, you can replace the paper bag with half of a big paper plate.

Here is a Duck Basket Craft https://www.themailbox.com/magazines/duck-basket-craft/crazy-quacker

Small Motor Skills

Scissors Skills Worksheet http://www.tlsbooks.com/cutandpasteactivities.html

Duck Coloring Page https://twistynoodle.com/d-is-for-duck-8-coloring-page/

Positional Words Worksheet https://www.themailbox.com/magazines/math-worksheet-positional-words-emover-underem/fishing-fun-3

Trace Letter D https://twistynoodle.com/i-can-trace-and-color-the-letter-d-coloring-page/

Gross Motor Skills

Shake Break by Jack Hartmann https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-8CSs7XnIo

Here is a riddle for you!
