For the writing\/reading process,<\/strong> have your child trace or copy (advanced skill) daily<\/strong> his\/her name on paper\/dry eraser board\/ mini blackboard (kindergarten handwriting page) starting at the top of each letter (you could draw an emoji \ud83d\ude42) either in all uppercase letters or just first letter in capital\/uppercase and the rest in lowercase. If your child is starting to write on paper, you can write your child\u2019s name with a highlighter and your child can use a crayon to trace it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I realize that you might have to survey other members of your family for the question of the day<\/strong> so that your child have enough tally marks to count or have your child put more than one tally mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A whole week activity<\/strong>:
For the phonetic<\/strong> part, have a big yogurt container with a lid filled with small objects or pictures that start with the letter B (baby, bad, balance, ball, bar, beautiful, bed, bee, big, bird, birthday,biscuit, blue, boat, bounce, bread, breakfast, bridge, brown, bubble, bun, bus, butter, butterfly.) You might want to add a picture of a pig, so that your child can say Dog that does not start with B! Here is a book of B word pictures: https:\/\/www.first-school.ws\/t.asp?t=http:\/\/www.first-school.ws\/images\/alpha\/ap1\/b.gif<\/a> Also, you can add new objects\/pictures starting with the letter B every day and let your child explore the container all through the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Science<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The science of washing clothes<\/strong>! In the classroom, I would put mittens, hats and scarves in the sensory bin with warm water and some soap. I would demonstrate how to wash clothes by hand. Children loved it! I would recommend setting a wash tub up and showing your child how to rub clothes together with soap explaining it detaches the dirt particles. I also had a cloth-line with cloth-pins! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the tune of \u201cOh, my Darling Clementine\u201d, we can sing: what\u2019s the weather, what\u2019s the weather, what\u2019s the weather like today? Is it cloudy, is it rainy, is it sunny, is it cold?<\/strong> (You can also change the weather words).
Let your child check the weather and tell you about it. You might want to ask your child to do a weather drawing that you can label.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Language Arts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With the book One Big Pair of Underwear<\/span> by Laura Gehl and Tom Lichtenheld https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bil6NOWz8js<\/a>, you can review with your child how to make pairs of items and count pairs. Then, your child can practice writing number 2 either:

For the Color<\/strong> Popsicles Math Activity<\/strong>, you need to lay any scarf down flat for patterning and have colorful popsicle sticks on hand. Start a pattern with one blue, one red, one blue popsicle stick and encourage your child to finish the pattern. Make as many different patterns as you and your child want.

January just started. The calendar<\/strong> is a daily<\/strong> activity to do with your child that develop number and pattern recognition. Here is the link to print a calendar to update daily with your child. The set has a weather component, if you like.

Daily counting of tally marks<\/strong> and show your child a number card or write the number down to show your child. The numbers of the tallies will be different every day. Extend the concept by comparing numbers: which has more? Which has fewer? Which are the same?<\/strong> How many more (count with fingers)?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Art<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Free Watercolor Day! <\/strong>All you need is a sheet of paper, watercolor with brush and a cup of water!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the Pattern Paper Scarf Art Project<\/strong>, you need (1) scissors, (2) long large strip of construction paper, (3) yarn, (4) hole puncher, (5) markers, strips of color construction paper\/ stamps\/ color tape\/ paint with brush\/ or any decoration.
Directions:
1. Take the long large strip of construction paper. It is your scarf.
2. Design a pattern and use markers, strips of color construction paper\/ stamps\/ paint with brush\/ or any decoration.
3. Hole punch 5 holes at each end of scarf.
4. Cut pieces of yarn and lace them through holes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
