What an adventure! We are still at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater, Maryland. We discovered oysters, blue crabs and now, we are searching for Chesapeake Bay most popular fish. The research boat we are on is quite comfortable. What kind of fish can we find? Let\u2019s take out our fishing rods. Kitchen Science<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Your child will hopefully enjoy the fish and seaweed snack. For this snack, you need (1) graham cracker or any large cracker, (2) any whipped topping colored in blue with blue food coloring, (3) tongue depressor, (4) green fruit roll-up, (5) fish-shaped crackers or goldfish, and (6) a plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Help your child spread the topping with the tongue depressor on the large cracker on the plate. Cut long strips of fruit roll-up that your child can put on top of the topping as well as the fish crackers. Yummy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Language Arts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are many books about fish written by Suzanne Tate. Let\u2019s look at Flossie Flounder. A Tale of Flat Fish<\/span>. https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=flX835zvcmA<\/a> after viewing the book, help your child to remember elements of the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is also an underlying theme, like many other books she wrote, about kindness. Ask your child what is kindness for him\/her and how people express it. Did the other flounders in the story show kindness toward Flossie? How can we show kindness?

May is a new month and your child needs a new calendar. Print this calendar set https:\/\/www.themailbox.com\/magazines\/may-calendar-setbr4-pages\/may-calendar-set<\/a> and have your child choose a pattern to follow for the new month.

Fishy Number Game: you need (1) dice, (2) print Fish Number Set https:\/\/www.themailbox.com\/magazines\/fish-patterns-with-dot-sets-0-to-10\/fish-number-sets<\/a> and print Fishing Bowl https:\/\/www.themailbox.com\/magazines\/fishbowl-pattern\/fishbowl<\/a>. Cut all the printed fish with patters. Have your child roll the dice and put the corresponding fish number in the bowl. The game is won when all the fish are in the bowl!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fishy Measurement Game<\/strong>: divide a page into three columns and Lebel them small, medium and big. You can find different size fish at https:\/\/www.firstpalette.com\/printable\/fish-shapes.html<\/a> and sort the fish in the three columns. You can even go further and measure fish with blocks or legos and see how many blocks\/legos you need to measure the length of a fish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paper Plate Fish Craft<\/strong>: you need (1) a paper plate, (2) scissors, (3) googly eyes, (4) little squares of tissue paper, color of your choice, and (5) glue and stapler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have your child cut a triangle out of the paper plate. The opening is the fish mouth and the piece can be stapled to the other side of the paper plate as the tail. Let your child glue the tissue square all over the fish and the eye on top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
