The ocean is full of big and small fish. In hot and humid areas Like Florida and Hawaii, we might see sharks. Sharks can vary from 7.9 inches (Dwarf Lantershark) to 60 feet (the whale shark) in length. https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WzKs948SEZ8<\/a> Here is a booklet of different sharks called The Itsy Bitsy Shark Book https:\/\/www.kidzone.ws\/sharks\/activities\/ws13.htm<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Science<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As a science activity, you can draw a large shark of about 20 feet more or less outside on your sidewalk or driveway and have your child sit on the shark drawing to compare his\/her size to the drawing. What does your child think of the difference in sizes? Your child can draw little fish around the shark!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If your child has a nature journal, you can glue the booklet or have your child make a drawing that you can label and date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Language Arts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you are lucky, you can find shark teeth during a trip to the beach too. Sharks have from 5 to 15 rows of teeth per jaw and lose teeth every week! https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rsrfrbVRHzA<\/a>

After viewing the book, help your child to sequence the story: what happened first, next and at the end. Discuss with your child the difference is sizes between the various fish in the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shark sees some fish swimming in the sea. (point to eyes and pretend to swim)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shark eats one fish. It is as happy as can be. (Show 1 finger and smile)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shark eats two fish. Is there any more in sight? (Show 2 fingers and put one hand above eyes)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shark eats three fish. Oh, what a delight! (Show 3 fingers and shake head to say yes)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shark eats four fish. Yum, yum, yummy! (Show 4 fingers and pretend eating with both hands)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
