For the S’more Solar Energy Experiment and snack time, you need (1) graham crackers, (2) marshmallows, (3) chocolate bar and (4) aluminium foil.
First, have each child break half a graham cracker into two pieces. Direct her/him to place a large marshmallow and a snack-size chocolate bar between the graham cracker pieces. Next, guide the child to wrap the treat in foil and place it in direct sunlight. Periodically check to see whether the chocolate and marshmallow have melted. Explain to your child that it melted because of the sun’s energy or heat, and emphasize that the sun’s energy has effects on other objects on Earth too.
If your child has a journal, ask your child to make a drawing that you can label and date.
