Hola! Let’s sing together our song “Rise and Shine – Welcome to School Today” by Dr. Jean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyAD2OoFuoY and our greeting song “Hello to all the children of the world”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nYjGy_ZUG8
I realize that you might have to survey other members of your family for the question of the day so that your child have enough tally marks to count or have your child put more than one tally mark.
Do you sometimes feel?
(Please draw faces next to words)
EXCITED WORRIED SILLY
(Remember to show your child how to do a tally mark from top to bottom – Important for the writing process)
You might want to ask your child about the poster with rules for a safe and learning environment you created together on the third day, and let him/her tell you the rules (pre-reading skills).
Science
On the tune of “Clementine”, we can sing: what’s the weather, what’s the weather, what’s the weather like today? Is it cloudy, is it rainy, is it sunny, is it cold? (You can also change the words).
Let your child check the weather and tell you about it. You might want to ask your child to do a weather drawing that you can label. Some activities will be repetitive to create a routine that brings comfort to your child.
Language Arts
We will often learn new words to help children express their feelings and expand their vocabulary. The book Wimberly Worried by Kevin Henkes explains that it is ok to worry, to articulate it, to find out a solution! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG-fizttWOs
After viewing the book, review the story with your child: what came first, next and at the end. Then tell your child what you worry about and ask him/her what she/he worries about. Try to brainstorm with your child how you both can respond to the worry(ies) or calm it/them. You can keep notes about your discussion for when your child worries and might need what you found out to calm the worry.
You can review singing the “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” Song and “Open, Shut Them” rhyme, as well as “The More We Get Together” Song with movement https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lldmkrJXQ-E
Here is a new Fingerplay called “I have Ten Little Fingers.”
I have ten little fingers and they all belong to me.
I can make them do things. Would you like to see?
I can shut them up tight. I can open them up wide.
I can clap them together. I can make them hide.
I can make them jump high. I can make them jump low.
I can fold them together & hold them just so! https://kcls.org/content/i-have-ten-little-fingers/
Math
Daily counting of tally marks and the counters you put in a container is an excellent practice for your child’s mathematical skills. The numbers of the tallies will be different every day and you can also change the counters. Extend the concept by comparing numbers: which has more? Which has less? Which are the same?
Art
Let your child explore and create more from the art supplies you have!
For this bunny art project, you need: (1) small paper plate, (2) scissor, (3) color paper, (4) glue, (5) googly eyes, (6) black marker.
Directions:
1. Cut 2 big white circle for ears, 2 smaller pink (or other color) circles to fit in big white circle, and 1 medium Color circle for 1 eye;
2. Take small paper plate and glue on its rim color circles in big white circles for ears, two googly eyes in the center and one on a color circle in the middle of the plate;
3. Draw a nose for your rabbit.
This project is unique to your child and I would even suggest showing your child by putting the pieces together loosely. Then, I would encourage you to let your child decide where to glue the pieces on the paper plate. You might discover a different perspective. Children are highly creative in their work!
