Here comes Peter Cottontail……Here is a riddle for your child. I have two long ears, whiskers and I hop all day long. What am I? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dWkMaynGkk we know a daddy rabbit is called a buck, a mommy rabbit a doe and a baby rabbit a kit or kitten.
Science
Let’s find out what rabbits eat! Rabbits usually eat fruit and vegetable. Have your child help you to prepare a rabbit snack and eat it. What did you like? How does it taste?
Make a chart divided into two columns labeled fruit and vegetables. Ask your child to tell you which vegetables and fruit a rabbit might eat and write them down. If your child has a journal, write the fruit and vegetable names and date the page.
Language Arts
Here is an adorable book by Margaret Wise Brown, The Runaway Bunny. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kj3c99efFsA After listening to the story, ask your child to look at the book’s color illustrations With you and invite your child to act out the actions of one or both bunnies (for example, flapping their arms when little bunny pretends to fly like a bird). Then view together the book again, pausing at each color illustration To allow your child to add his/her actions.
Song: “Bunnies Here, Bunnies There“ (Tune of “Gingle Bells”)
Bunnies here, bunnies there, digging all around.
Making houses in the dirt.
They tunnel all around!
Bunnies here, bunnies there.
Hopping on their way,
As they look for lettuce
In the garden every day!
Song: “I’m A Little Bunny”(sung to the tune of “I’m a Little Teapot”)
I’m a little bunny. (Point to self.)
See me hop. (Hop up and down.)
Watch my ears go flippity-flop (Flip-flop hands like ears.)
My tail is soft as cotton. Look and see! (Pretend to wag tail.)
My nose wiggles, so wiggle with me! (Wiggle nose.)
