Let’s sing together our song “Rise and Shine – Welcome to School Today” by Dr. Jean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyAD2OoFuoY and our greeting song “Hello to all the children of the world”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nYjGy_ZUG8

My favorite Closing Song sung on “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” tune with movement:

Twinkle, twinkle little stars! Time is over and we say goodbye. (Open and close hands)
We had fun with all our friends. Let’s come back and do it again! (Arm moved up and back)
Twinkle, twinkle, little stars! What a wonderful bunch you are! (Blow kisses)

For the writing/reading process, have your child trace or copy (advanced skill) daily his/her name on paper/dry eraser board/ mini blackboard (kindergarten handwriting page) starting at the top of each letter (you could draw 🙂) either in all uppercase letters or just first letter in capital/uppercase and the rest in lowercase.

I realize that you might have to survey other members of your family for the question of the day so that your child have enough tally marks to count or have your child put more than one tally mark.

RIDDLE: What hangs from a tree, can have different colors, is a tasty sauce and has seeds?
BANANA 🍌/ STRAWBERRY 🍓/ APPLE 🍎/ LETTUCE 🥬

Make letter C shape:

  1. 1 big curve for capital C/ 1 little curve for Lowercase c. Your child use a finger to trace the letter starting at the top, going down and around from left to right (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpM6EcggWcM). In order to start learning letters, your child will need a set of big curves, little curves, big lines and little lines in wood. You can purchase them at https://www.lwtears.com or make them your self. Here is a picture: http://cdn.lwtears.com/images/uploads/1_787_large.png)
  2. Wet-Dry-Try on small chalkboard (Handwriting Without Tears) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6p4LUEGbwM
  3. Play dough with small chalkboard (recipe: https://www.thebestideasforkids.com/playdough-recipe/) or you can purchase the Roll-A-Dough Set from Handwriting without Tears https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spjVLDXDixI

A whole week activity:
For the phonetic part, have a big yogurt container with a lid filled with small objects or pictures that start with the letter C (cake, car, cat, candle, cap, castle, clean, clever, climb, clock, clothes, cold, color, come, cook, count, cross, cuddle, cup, custard, cut.) You might want to add a picture of a unicorn, so that your child can say that unicorn does not start with C! Here is a book of C word pictures: https://twistynoodle.com/my-letter-c-minibook/ Also, you can add new objects/pictures starting with the letter C every day and let your child explore the container all through the week.

Science

For Dancing Appleseeds Science Experiment, you need (1) appleseeds (adult cut apples in halves to find seeds), (2) seltzer water or soda, and (3) a cup.
Hypothesis: What will happen to appleseeds in a cup if you pour seltzer water or soda on them?
Experiment: have you child put apple seeds in a cup and pour some seltzer water or soda on them.
Result(s): “I see…….” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytj-yrXDW-U)

On the tune of “Oh, my Darling Clementine”, we can sing: what’s the weather, what’s the weather, what’s the weather like today? Is it cloudy, is it rainy, is it sunny, is it cold? (You can also change the weather words).
Let your child check the weather and tell you about it. You might want to ask your child to do a weather drawing that you can label. Some activities will be repetitive to create a routine that brings comfort to your child.

Language Arts

Apple Season is upon us! My favorite treat is apple strudel. What is yours?
1. The Biggest Apple Ever by Steve Kroll https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyxXykPZdac (advanced).
2. Apple Trouble by Ragnhild Scamell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OokS4c5Ua0g

After viewing a book, help your child to sequence the story: what happened first, next,… at the end. The major theme in both books is helping others. Brainstorm with your child how characters are helping each other and extend by asking how your child can help in your home, your family, your neighborhood,…

“5 Little Apples” Fingerplay (5 Apple print https://twistynoodle.com/my-apple-book-8-minibook/)

Way up high in the apple tree, five little apples smiled down at me.
I shook that tree as hard as I could and down came an apple. Yum, yum! It was good!
Way up high in the apple tree, four little apples smiled down at me.
I shook that tree as hard as I could and down came an apple. Yum, yum! It was good!
Way up high in the apple tree, three little apples smiled at me.
I shook that tree as hard as I could and down came an apple. Yum, yum! It was good!
Way up high in the apple tree, two little apples smiled at me.
I shook that tree as hard as I could and down came an apple. Yum, yum! It was good!
Way up high in the apple tree, one little apples smiled at me.
I shook that tree as hard as I could and down came an apple. Yum, yum! It was good!
Way up high in the apple tree, zero apple smiled at me.
I shook that tree as hard as I could and no apple came down like I thought they should.

”I Love Apples!” Song (“You are my Sunshine” tune)

I love red apples. I love red apples.
And I could eat them every day!
I love the sweet ones. I love the tart ones.
Please don’t take my apples away.

I love green apples. I love green apples.
And I could eat them every day!
I love them sour. They give me power.
Apples keep the doctors away.

I love yellow apples. I love yellow apples.
And I could eat them every day!
I love them crunchy. They are so munchy!
Please don’t take my apples away.

”Apple Bingo” Song

I found a fruit that grows on trees and APPLE is it’s name-o.
A P P L E, A P P L E, A P P L E
and APPLE is its name-o.

Math

Ten Apples Up on Top by Dr. Seuss https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdeqBUeEs-k is fun counting forward 1 to 10 and backward from 10 to 1. For advanced skills, this video helps your child to count down from 20 to 1. To extend even further the exploration (advanced) help your child count by 10.

November is here! The calendar is a daily activity to do with your child that develop number and pattern recognition. Here is the link to print a calendar to update daily with your child. The set has a weather component, if you like. https://www.themailbox.com/magazines/november-calendar-setbr4-pages/november-calendar-set-2

Daily counting of tally marks and show your child a number card or write the number down to show your child. The numbers of the tallies will be different every day. Extend the concept by comparing numbers: which has more? Which has fewer? Which are the same? How many more (count with fingers)?

Gross Motor Skills

Outside time with climbing, jumping, bicycling, running, walking are great ways to develop the whole child.

Children enjoy motions in bowling. For playing, you can use a bowling set or simply a set of tall plastic cups with a ball. The winner is the player knocking down all the pins/cups.
