Let’s sing together our song “Rise and Shine – Welcome to School Today” by Dr. Jean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyAD2OoFuoY and our greeting song “Hello to all the children of the world”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nYjGy_ZUG8

My favorite Closing Song sung on “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” tune with movement:

Twinkle, twinkle little stars! Time is over and we say goodbye. (Open and close hands)
We had fun with all our friends. Let’s come back and do it again! (Arm moved up and back)
Twinkle, twinkle, little stars! What a wonderful bunch you are! (Blow kisses)

For the writing/reading process, have your child trace or copy (advanced skill) daily his/her name on paper/dry eraser board/ mini blackboard (kindergarten handwriting page) starting at the top of each letter (you could draw an emoji 🙂) either in all uppercase letters or just first letter in capital/uppercase and the rest in lowercase. If your child is starting to write on paper, you can write your child’s name with a highlighter and your child can use a crayon to trace it.

I realize that you might have to survey other members of your family for the question of the day so that your child have enough tally marks to count or have your child put more than one tally mark.

What do you like on your pizza?

Making Letter K Shape:

  1. 1 big line and 2 little lines for capital K and Lowercase k. Your child use a finger to trace the letter starting at the top, going down, jump back up, and 2 diagonals down. (In order to start learning letters, your child will need a set of big curves, little curves, big lines and little lines in wood. You can purchase them at https://www.lwtears.com or make them your self. Here is a picture: http://cdn.lwtears.com/images/uploads/1_787_large.png)
  2. Wet-Dry-Try on small chalkboard (Handwriting Without Tears) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6p4LUEGbwM
  3. Play dough with small chalkboard (recipe: https://www.thebestideasforkids.com/playdough-recipe/) or you can purchase the Roll-A-Dough Set from Handwriting without Tears https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spjVLDXDixI

For Making Number 3 Shape, you need 2 little curves. For writing number 3: start at the top, go down and around twice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuHFOuopiKQ Encourage your child to trace with pointer finger.

A whole week activity:
For the phonetic part, have a big yogurt container with a lid filled with small objects or pictures that start with the letter K (kangaroo, keep, kennel, ketchup, kettle, key, key, kick, kid, kilo, kind, king, kiss, kitchen, kite, kitten, kaleidoscope). You might want to add a picture of a rainbow, so that your child can say rainbow does not start with K! Here is a book of K word pictures: https://twistynoodle.com/my-letter-k-minibook/ Also, you can add new objects/pictures starting with the letter K every day and let your child explore the container all through the week. Kitchen Science

For Pizza Making Snack, you can use prepared dough, English muffins or mini bagels as a base. You can spread tomato sauce on dough/bread and shredded mozzarella on top (you can find pizza sauce and shredded mozzarella at grocery stores). Put it in the oven until cheese is melted and slightly golden brown.

To make quick pizza dough, you need (1) bowl with spoon, (2) 2 1/2 cups of flour, (3) 1 tsp of salt, (4) 1 tsp of sugar, (5) 2 tbsp of olive oil, (6) 1 cup of warm water, and (7) active dry yeast (1 packet of 1/4 oz). Mix all ingredients together until you get a ball. Transfer to a lightly floured surface and knead the dough. Let it stand for 30 minutes before rolling it out to make pizza!

Science

On the tune of “Oh, my Darling Clementine”, we can sing: what’s the weather, what’s the weather, what’s the weather like today? Is it cloudy, is it rainy, is it sunny, is it cold? (You can also change the weather words).
Let your child check the weather and tell you about it. You might want to ask your child to do a weather drawing that you can label.

Language Arts

Pizza Literature:
1. Rabbit’s Pajama Party by Stuart J. Murphy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkt40u2bh-M.

2. Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party (advanced) by Kimberly and James Dean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrVrFBGi43w.
3. Pete’s a Pizza by William Steig https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFT5mKv7oJg.
4. Curious George and the Pizza by Margaret and H. A. Rey https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtD3WLKHlyM

After viewing a book, help your child sequence the story: what happened first, next,… at the end. Brainstorm with your child how you and your child made or want to make a pizza. What else would you put on the pizza? Strawberries, pineapple chunks, anchovies,….

The Pizza Song (“Bingo” tune)
There is a treat I love to it and pizza is its namo.

(Then change to the sound of the vowel E).

“Do You Like a Cheese Pizza?” Song (“The Muffin Man” tune)
Do you like a cheese pizza, a cheese pizza, a cheese pizza?
Do you like a cheese pizza that’s made for me and you!
Yes, I like a cheese pizza, a cheese pizza, a cheese pizza.
Yes, I like a cheese pizza that’s made for me and you.
or.
No, I don’t like a jam pizza, a jam pizza, a jam pizza.
No, I don’t like a jam pizza that’s made for me and you!
Other verses: a pepperoni pizza, a pineapple pizza, a pepper pizza, a ham pizza (can be silly too)

Math

Let’s make a Shape Pizza! For this math activity, you need (1) big paper plate for pizza, (2) glue, (3) small shapes out of construction paper: pink squares for ham, yellow rectangles for cheese, red circles for pepperoni, and green triangles for peppers. Have your child decorate the pizza with all ingredients (shapes) and count the amounts of each. Then, make a list to fill with numbers:

“For my pizza,
I used ……. pink squares.
I used …….. yellow rectangles.
I used …….. red circles.
I used …….. green triangles.”

January just started. The calendar is a daily activity to do with your child that develop number and pattern recognition. Here is the link to print a calendar to update daily with your child. The set has a weather component, if you like.
https://www.themailbox.com/magazines/january-calendar-set/january-calendar-set-2

Daily counting of tally marks and show your child a number card or write the number down to show your child. The numbers of the tallies will be different every day. Extend the concept by comparing numbers: which has more? Which has fewer? Which are the same? How many more (count with fingers)?

Art

For Paper Pizza Art Project, you need (1) big paper plate, (2) scissors, (3) red and brown tempera paint with brush, (4) yellow yarn, (5) red construction paper small circles, (6) glue, (7) black marker.
Directions:
1. Draw lines to divide big paper plate/pie into 6 equal parts/slices with black marker.
2. Cut out each equal part/slice.
3. Paint the center of each part/slice with red tempera paint for tomato sauce and the rim with brown tempera paint for crust.
4. Cut little pieces of yellow yarn for shredded mozzarella.
5. Once paint dry, glue yarn pieces and small red circles for pepperoni on each slice of paper plate/pie. You can add more ingredients on pie out of construction paper like triangles for peppers, pink rectangles for ham, brown small circles for mushrooms, …
6. For further exploration, use another big paper plate and draw lines to divide it into 6 equal parts/slices and number each slice from 1 to 6 with black marker. Encourage your child to place the painted slices on the numbered pie.

For Letterland Letter K Art Project, you need (1) light blue construction paper, (2) glue, (3) scissors, (4) letter K template, (5) small rhombus/diamonds out of construction paper, (6) cotton balls, and (7) yarn.
