Tigers are the biggest cats in the world. Brainstorm with your child the various species of cats you know! In the cat family, you have the domestic cat, tiger, lion, cheetah, lynx, puma, jaguar and leopard. Both the Sumatran and the Bengal tigers live in a rainforest habitat in Southeast Asia. They are endangered and very few still live in the wild. National Geographic Kids shows these amazing cats! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8OmRW4em_vA

Science

Remember to have your child use the weather wheel he/she made in “Wild Animals of the Rainforest -Toucan” to predict the weather. You can also chart the everyday prediction on a chart/a bar graph using the same pictures. Or you can help your child to fill in this Weather Forecast Weekly Page https://twistynoodle.com/my-weather-forecast-2-coloring-page/

If your child has a journal, you can help glue the page in it.

Language Arts

Who is the Beast? by Keith Baker Is a book describing a tiger and comparing his characteristics to other animals around it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HnXzrnuc2gc
After viewing the story, review with your child the characteristics of a tiger.

Then, have your child look at himself/herself in the mirror and talk about his/her characteristics: “I have two eyes, I have a nose, I have teeth….” and compare them to another person or an animal: “you have two eyes like me or like a lion.”

Tidy Tiger Tongue Twister

A tidy tiger tied a tighter tie to tidy her tiny tail.

Tiger Song (Tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”)

Tiger, tiger, orange and black. It’s got stripes upon its back.
When he growls sharp teeth I see,
He’s as scary as can be!
Tiger, tiger, orange and lack.
He’s got stripes upon his back.

“Little Tiger” Song (Tune of “I’m a Little Teapot”)

I’m a little tiger in the rainforest.
Here are my stripes.
Here is my tail.
When I get excited you will see
Just how loud that I can growl.

Five Tigers Fingerplay
Five little tigers went out to play
Through the jungle and far away
Mother Tiger said “GRRrr”
Four little tigers came running back.

Four little tigers went out to play…
Three little tigers went out to play…
Two little tigers went out to play…
One little tiger went out to play…

Tiger Rhyme
Tiger, tiger in the night,
With his eyes burning bright.
Look and see his tail so long,
Swish, swish, swish with a song.
Look and see his eyes so bright,
Blink, blink, blink in the light.
See his stripes upon his back,
Just like so, orange and black.

Math

May is a new month and your child needs a new calendar. Print this calendar set https://www.themailbox.com/magazines/may-calendar-setbr4-pages/may-calendar-set and have your child choose a pattern to follow for the new month.

Let’s learn to tell time with an analog clock. Your child will have fun moving the hour hand saying « It’s ten o’clock! » For this Project, you need (1) a paper plate, (2) marker to write 1-12, (3) a paper hour arm or a paper clip, and a fastener to move the hour arm/paper clip. https://happyhooligans.ca/paper-plate-clock-craft/
