So many animals live in the African savanna. You can find many different mammals like a rhino, gazelle, aardvark, wildebeest, baboon, but also a variety of reptiles and birds. Here is a National Geographic Kids video about rhinoceros https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ST_83Hkrbk4 and wildebeests https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XzgI-1ArLb4

Language Arts

Where’s the Baboon? by Michael Escoffier is a light-hearted book with a play on words. The book is delightfully read and explained by a child. I would recommend to read it many times with your child to commit it to memory. Your child will be so happy to “read” it all to you. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=k5eGk9_jhu8

The child reading and explaining the book is a good example how we can all learn from each other even with our differences (age in this case). You could start a conversation with your child about the child reading. Would it be different if it was a sibling, an adult, a parent, a teacher, a neighbor, a grandpa? Would your child have fun? Would the explanation be different? What would he/she prefer?

Rain Song (Tune of “London Bridge”)

Happy Rhino feels the rain,

Feels the rain, feels the rain.

Happy rhino feels the rain.

Sees it’s coming!

The Animal Fair Song
I went to the Animal Fair.
The birds and the beasts were there.
The big baboon by the light of the moon
Was combing his auburn hair.

The monkey it got spunk.
He sat on the elephant’s trunk.
The elephant sneezed and fell on his knees,
And that was the end of the monk, the monk.
And that was the end of the monk!

Play a game of “Charades: Wild Animals.” Take turns with your child, acting out different animals. See how many you can guess. Encourage your child to not only make the sound that the animal makes but to walk and move like the animal, too.
