Roar, roar! Part of the same family as the tiger, a lion is a big cat with a mane. It is also called “the king of the jungle”. Its pride living in the Savanna has many members: lions, lionesses and cubs. Let’s explore more https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tlZwYsJpqjo

Science

Making play dough is a lot of fun and your child will enjoy playing with it for a long time. For this recipe, you need:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup salt
  • 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 2 cups lukewarm water
  • 2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • Food coloring
  • Gallon sized bag

Help your child mix the flour, salt and cream of tartar in a large pot. Next add the water, oil and food coloring. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly. Continue stirring until the dough has thickened and begins to form into a ball. Remove from heat and then place inside a gallon sized bag or onto wax paper. Allow to cool slightly and then knead until smooth. When it cools down, the play dough is ready for your child. Let’s play!

if your child has a journal, you can keep the recipe in it.

The Happy Lion by Louise Fatio https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl7ytepG5kw is a story about a lion in a French zoo that decides to explore the neighboring town to say hello. After viewing the story, help your child to recall details in the story.

The underlying theme is about friendship and understanding. Help your child to explain why everyone was afraid of the lion and why Francois is the only friend helping the lion to go back to his home.

Lion Song (Tune of “London Bridge”) (with action movement)

Lion, lion, come out and play!

Come out and play! Come out and Play!

Lion, lion, come out and play!
I’m waiting for you!

Lion, lion, get up and sit down….

Lion, lion walk and jog…… or twist and hop…..

I’m a Lion Song (Tune of “Three Blind Mice”)

I’m a lion, I’m a lion.
Hear me roar, hear me roar!
I love to sleep out in the sun,
And chase other animals for fun.
In all the savanna I’m Number One! I’m a lion, I’m a lion!

Gross Motor Skills

Red Light and Green Light

Your child(ten) stand against the wall on one side of the room and you stand on the other side facing him/her. You call, “Green light!” Children run toward you until you yell, “Red light!” Then the children must freeze where they are.

The game continues until the children reach you, and then the game starts over.

Freeze Dance

Play a song for your child(een) to dance to. Whenever the song is paused, they have to freeze in place. Your children will have fun dancing, and they’ll also develop skills for self-regulation, similar to games like Red Light, Green Light.
