Guten Tag! Let’s sing together our song “Rise and Shine – Welcome to School Today” by Dr. Jean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyAD2OoFuoY and our greeting song “Hello to all the children of the world”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nYjGy_ZUG8
I realize that you might have to survey other members of your family for the question of the day so that your child have enough tally marks to count or have your child put more than one tally mark.
How was your Labor Day weekend?
FUN 😎 SAD 😢 EXCITING 😁 BAD 🙁
For the writing/reading process, have your child trace his/her name with an erasable marker on a ruled laminated strip either all in uppercase letters or uppercase first letter with others in lower case, depending of your child’s skills. I will encourage your child to do this activity daily to develop mastery. Your child might also move from tracing to copying on a ruled strip depending on his/her skills.

If laminating is hard, you can purchase/print kindergarten handwriting pages.
I would also recommend purchasing My First School Book from Handwriting Without Tears methodology https://www.lwtears.com/hwt, as well as My First Lowercase Book for advanced skills.
We will incorporate the fun of Letterland https://us.letterland.com/covid-19 in our study of lowercase letters too.
As a daily activity, you might want to ask your child about the poster with rules for a safe and learning environment you created together on the third day, and let him/her tell you the rules (pre-reading skills).
Science
On the tune of “Clementine”, we can sing: what’s the weather, what’s the weather, what’s the weather like today? Is it cloudy, is it rainy, is it sunny, is it cold? (You can also change the weather words).
Let your child check the weather and tell you about it. You might want to ask your child to do a weather drawing that you can label. Some activities will be repetitive to create a routine that brings comfort to your child.
For our science discovery, I would recommend having mirrors available to you child and letting your child explore with mirrors. Mirror, Mirror – All About Me Chant https://www.themailbox.com/magazines/all-about-me-chant-poster/mirror-mirror-2
Language Arts
There two books I would like to introduce: 1. I Like Me by Nancy Carlson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-bPxL5awnI
After viewing the book, share with your child what you like about yourself and encourage your child to do the same.
2. My Five Senses by Aliki https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FW2jQqweOg
After viewing the book, share with your child what you can do with your 5 senses: see, hear, touch, smell and taste. Then, ask your child to give you an example of using his/her five senses (Jon can hear the fire engine!)
Jack Hartmann sings a song about 5 senses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtL11JXG1mc

”I have Ten Little Fingers” Fingerplay
I have ten little fingers and they all belong to me.
I can make them do things. Would you like to see?
I can shut them up tight. I can open them up wide.
I can clap them together. I can make them hide.
I can make them jump high. I can make them jump low.
I can fold them together & hold them just so! https://kcls.org/content/i-have-ten-little-fingers/

Math
Daily counting of tally marks and the counters you put in a container is an excellent practice for your child’s mathematical skills. The numbers of the tallies will be different every day and you can also change the counters. Extend the concept by comparing numbers: which has more? Which has less? Which are the same?
Please write down the number and show your child. Your child will start associate an amount with a number. You can use a regular playing card or UNO card.
As an extension, you can break down the number of counters into smaller amounts in groups (For a group of 5 counters, A group of 3 and a group of 2, and see with your child which one is bigger or smaller; or a group of 1 and a group of 4 counters) and then put the counters/groups back together. Do we still have the same total amount of counters or did it change?
Art
For this Art projects, you need white paper, crayons/color pencils, and a mirror. Have your child look in the mirror and draw himself. Your child can draw as much details as he/she wants.
Your child will deliver a wonderful creation that will be your starting point to evaluate his/her small motor skills for pre-writing. You will be amazing to see the fast progression during the school year!
