“Hej” (In Danish) Let’s sing together our song “Rise and Shine – Welcome to School Today” by Dr. Jean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyAD2OoFuoY and our greeting song “Hello to all the children of the world”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nYjGy_ZUG8

I realize that you might have to survey other members of your family for the question of the day so that your child have enough tally marks to count or have your child put more than one tally mark.

What is your favorite color(s)?
PURPLE ORANGE GREEN BROWN

And have your child explain which primary colors (yellow, red, blue) you mixed! Here is Sesame Street helpful song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yu44JRTIxSQ

For the writing/reading process, have your child trace or copy (advanced skill) daily his/her name on paper/dry eraser board/ mini blackboard (kindergarten handwriting page) starting at the top of each letter (you could draw 🙂) either in all uppercase letters or just first letter in uppercase and the rest in lowercase.

Yesterday, your child made the L shape in different ways. Encourage your child to chose another way to make the L shape, that your child did not practice yet or review.

  1. A big line and a little line for capital L / a big line for Lowercase l. Your child use a finger to trace the letter starting at the top and from left to right. (In order to start learning letters, your child will need a set of big curves, little curves, big lines and little lines in wood. You can purchase them at https://www.lwtears.com or make them your self. Here is a picture: http://cdn.lwtears.com/images/uploads/1_787_large.png)
  2. Wet-Dry-Try on small chalkboard (Handwriting Without Tears) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6p4LUEGbwM
  3. Play dough with small chalkboard (recipe: https://www.thebestideasforkids.com/playdough-recipe/) or you can purchase the Roll-A-Dough Set from Handwriting without Tears https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spjVLDXDixI

Here is a material presentation from Handwriting Without Tears https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spjVLDXDixI

If you have My First School Book from Handwriting Without Tears methodology https://www.lwtears.com/hwt, we will use it tomorrow.

During the week, have your child explore the big yogurt container with a lid filled with small objects or pictures that start with the letter L (lemon, lettuce, lentils, lion, lizard, leaf, leg letter). You might want to add a picture of an apple, so that your child can say that apple does not start with L! Also, you can add new objects/pictures starting with the letter L all through the week.

Science

Yesterday, your child Learned the circle of seasons (Have your child make a big circle in the air with their arm. At each quarter, have your child repeat a season (fall or autumn, winter, spring and summer) and viewed a book about fall https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMryWr86FI0.
Let’s take your child on a walk to find signs of fall/autumn to collect (leaves, nuts,…) Here is also a Fall Scavenger Hunt Page http://domesticmommyhood.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Fall-Scavenger-Hunt-Printable-700×1000.jpg

On the tune of “Clementine”, we can sing: what’s the weather, what’s the weather, what’s the weather like today? Is it cloudy, is it rainy, is it sunny, is it cold? (You can also change the weather words).
Let your child check the weather and tell you about it. You might want to ask your child to do a weather drawing that you can label. Some activities will be repetitive to create a routine that brings comfort to your child.

Language Arts

Pass It On by Marilyn Sadler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZqusTFcC8o or Helping Hands by Anna Prokos are both about helping. After viewing one or both books, help your child to recall the story: what happened first, then and at the end. Brainstorm with your child how you can help your family, neighbors, friends,…

Write a list of helpful tasks that your child can do To help at the house. For the lack of classroom jobs, your child can have daily or weekly 1 House Job or more.

This Little Light of Mine Song and Dance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdsPbE9awKY

A Clean-Up Song (tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”)

Twinkle, twinkle little star, time to clean up where you are. Put the toys back in their place.
Keep a smile upon your face.
Twinkle, twinkle little star., time to clean up where you are.

”I’m a Little Teapot” Song

I’m a little teapot, short and stout.
Here is my handle, (put hand on hip)
Here is my spout, (lift other arm)
When I get all steamed up, hear me shout.
Tip me over and pour me out (bend your body sideways).

Math

As another practice with numbers, you can play a game of dice with your child. For this game, have 2 dice and roll a die each. Ask your child who had the highest number and who had the lowest. The person with the highest wins!

The calendar is a daily activity to do with your child that develop number and pattern recognition. Here is the link to print a calendar to update daily with your child. The set has a weather component, if you like. https://www.themailbox.com/magazines/september-calendar-setbr4-pages/september-calendar-set-3

Daily counting of tally marks and show your child a number card or write the number down to show your child. The numbers of the tallies will be different every day. Extend the concept by comparing numbers: which has more? Which has fewer? Which are the same?
