Let’s sing together our song “Rise and Shine – Welcome to School Today” by Dr. Jean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyAD2OoFuoY and our greeting song “Hello to all the children of the world”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nYjGy_ZUG8

I realize that you might have to survey other members of your family for the question of the day so that your child have enough tally marks to count or have your child put more than one tally mark.

Which community helper would you like to be?

FIREFIGHTER 🚒 DOCTOR 🥼 FARMER 👩‍🌾 TRAIN CONDUCTOR 🚂

For the writing/reading process, have your child trace or copy (advanced skill) daily his/her name on paper/dry eraser board/ mini blackboard (kindergarten handwriting page) starting at the top of each letter (you could draw 🙂) either in all uppercase letters or just first letter in uppercase and the rest in lowercase.

We started with Firefighter Fred from Letterland and listen to the song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQbFjujR00o to the story https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQtR4tegDPY

We will make the F shape with:

  1. A big line and 2 little lines for capital F/ a big line, a little curve, and a little line for Lowercase f. Your child use a finger to trace the letter starting at the top and from left to right. (In order to start learning letters, your child will need a set of big curves, little curves, big lines and little lines in wood. You can purchase them at https://www.lwtears.com or make them your self. Here is a picture: http://cdn.lwtears.com/images/uploads/1_787_large.png)
  2. Wet-Dry-Try on small chalkboard (Handwriting Without Tears) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6p4LUEGbwM
  3. Play dough with small chalkboard (recipe: https://www.thebestideasforkids.com/playdough-recipe/) or you can purchase the Roll-A-Dough Set from Handwriting without Tears https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spjVLDXDixI

For the phonetic part, have a big yogurt container with a lid filled with small objects or pictures that start with the letter F (Face, fall, farm, fence, five, flag). You might want to add a picture of a ball, so that your child can say that ball does not start with F ! Here is a book of F word pictures https://twistynoodle.com/my-letter-f-2-minibook/

Also, you can add new objects/pictures starting with the letter F all through the week.

Science

For this science experiment, you need (1) bowl with water, (2) pepper, and (3) Liquid dish detergent. Have your child shake pepper in the water, put some dish detergent on one finger and then dip the finger In the water with pepper. What happens to the pepper? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eR-ZV-_fQok

On the tune of “Clementine”, we can sing: what’s the weather, what’s the weather, what’s the weather like today? Is it cloudy, is it rainy, is it sunny, is it cold? (You can also change the weather words).
Let your child check the weather and tell you about it. You might want to ask your child to do a weather drawing that you can label. Some activities will be repetitive to create a routine that brings comfort to your child.

Language Arts

Another community helper is a police officer. Here is a story about their job: Police Officer on Patrol by Kirsten Hamilton https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RTR1DaX_Ew
After viewing the story, have your child tell you the ways a police officer on patrol help people. Brainstorm other ways a police officer can help people. (Help a child cross a street after school, for instance)

“I am a Police Officer” Song (Tune of “I am a Little Teapot”)

I’m a police officer with my star,
I help people near and far.
If you have a problem, call on me,
And I will be there. One, two, three!

911 Song (Tune of “Three Blind Mice”)

9-1-1, 9-1-1,
Help’s on the way, help’s on the way.
If I need help, I know what to do,
I can call the police and the firehouse, too,
It makes me feel safe to know what to do.
Dial 9-1-1.

Five Police Officer Fingerplay

Five police officers, standing by the store,
One directed traffic, and then there were four.
Four police officers, watching over me,
One took home a lost girl, and then there were three.
Three police officers, dressed all in blue,
One stopped a speeding car, and then there were two.
Two police officers, how fast they can run,
One caught a bank robber, and then there was one.
One police officer, standing in the sun,
Sun went down, he went home, and then there were none.

Math

For this building math game, you need (1) dice and (2) blocks (duplos or legos). Have your child roll the die (dice) and build a structure with the same number of blocks as the number of dots on the die. Add more blocks every time you roll the die (dice). At the end, help your child count all the blocks in the structure.

The calendar is a daily activity to do with your child that develop number and pattern recognition. Here is the link to print a calendar to update daily with your child. The set has a weather component, if you like. https://www.themailbox.com/magazines/september-calendar-setbr4-pages/september-calendar-set-3

Daily counting of tally marks and show your child a number card or write the number down to show your child. The numbers of the tallies will be different every day. Extend the concept by comparing numbers: which has more? Which has fewer? Which are the same? How many more (count with fingers)?
