Let’s sing together our song “Rise and Shine – Welcome to School Today” by Dr. Jean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyAD2OoFuoY and our greeting song “Hello to all the children of the world”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nYjGy_ZUG8
I realize that you might have to survey other members of your family for the question of the day so that your child have enough tally marks to count or have your child put more than one tally mark.
What is your favorite truck?
DUMP TRUCK /EXCAVATOR /TOW TRUCK/
CEMENT MIXER
For the writing/reading process, have your child trace or copy (advanced skill) daily his/her name on paper/dry eraser board/ mini blackboard (kindergarten handwriting page) starting at the top of each letter (you could draw 🙂) either in all uppercase letters or just first letter in uppercase and the rest in lowercase.
We started with Firefighter Fred from Letterland and listen to the song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQbFjujR00o to the story https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQtR4tegDPY
Day 2 of building the letter F:
- A big line and 2 little lines for capital F/ a big line, a little curve, and a little line for Lowercase f. Your child use a finger to trace the letter starting at the top and from left to right. (In order to start learning letters, your child will need a set of big curves, little curves, big lines and little lines in wood. You can purchase them at https://www.lwtears.com or make them your self. Here is a picture: http://cdn.lwtears.com/images/uploads/1_787_large.png)
- Wet-Dry-Try on small chalkboard (Handwriting Without Tears) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6p4LUEGbwM
- Play dough with small chalkboard (recipe: https://www.thebestideasforkids.com/playdough-recipe/) or you can purchase the Roll-A-Dough Set from Handwriting without Tears https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spjVLDXDixI
A whole week activity:
For the phonetic part, have a big yogurt container with a lid filled with small objects or pictures that start with the letter F (Face, fall, farm, fence, five, flag). You might want to add a picture of a ball, so that your child can say that ball does not start with F ! Here is a book of F word pictures https://twistynoodle.com/my-letter-f-2-minibook/ Also, you can add new objects/pictures starting with the letter F and let your child explore the container all through the week.
Science
On the tune of “Clementine”, we can sing: what’s the weather, what’s the weather, what’s the weather like today? Is it cloudy, is it rainy, is it sunny, is it cold? (You can also change the weather words).
Let your child check the weather and tell you about it. You might want to ask your child to do a weather drawing that you can label. Some activities will be repetitive to create a routine that brings comfort to your child.
Kitchen Science
Community helpers and among them, construction workers, need energy to work, like you and me. A smoothie is a yummy and full of energy snack.
For the recipe, you need (1) 1 banana peeled, (2) 1 cup of yogurt, (3) 1 cup of frozen fruit, (4) 1 tablespoon of honey, and (5) a mixer only operated by an adult.
Have your child put all the ingredients in the blender and an adult blends all together. After blending, pour in drinking cups. Your yummy snack is ready!
Language Arts
after snack time, a construction worker is ready to operate different trucks. Here is a selection of two interesting books:
- Diggerman by Andrea Zimmerman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CY8f6ePdphU
- Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site by Sherri Duksey Rinker https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDTKd3dN8w4 (also a great bedtime story)
After viewing a book, help your child to retell the story, call the different trucks, and explain what the trucks do (vocabulary and memory building)
If you take a car ride today, ask your child which trucks your child sees on the road and how many?
Construction workers might need help too!
911 Song (Tune of “Three Blind Mice”)
9-1-1, 9-1-1,
Help’s on the way, help’s on the way.
If I need help, I know what to do,
I can call the police and the firehouse, too,
It makes me feel safe to know what to do.
Dial 9-1-1.
Down by the Dump Song (Tune of “Down by the Station”)
Down at the dump early in the morning,
See the dump trucks standing in a row.
See them dump the garbage
In a great big pile,
Dump, dump, dump, dump,
Watch them go.
The Wheels on the Dump Truck/Excavator/Cement Truck/Bulldozer Song and Movement (Tune of The “Wheels on the Bus”) The first verse is:
The Wheels on the truck go round and round, round and round, round and round; the wheels on the trucks go round and round on the construction site.
Other verses: The bin of the dump truck goes up and down; The mixer of the cement mixer is spinning and turning (cement truck); The smoke of the bulldozer’ stack goes up, up, up; The Excavator’s boom digs lots of holes,…..

The calendar is a daily activity to do with your child that develop number and pattern recognition. Here is the link to print a calendar to update daily with your child. The set has a weather component, if you like. https://www.themailbox.com/magazines/october-calendar-setbr4-pages/october-calendar-set-3
Daily counting of tally marks and show your child a number card or write the number down to show your child. The numbers of the tallies will be different every day. Extend the concept by comparing numbers: which has more? Which has fewer? Which are the same? How many more (count with fingers)?
Art
You can make different trucks out of many kinds of recyclables, glue, and paint/crayons/markers. Brainstorm with your child what truck you want to build and what recyclables you can use.
DIY Dump Truck Building Project (You can use paint too) https://www.reasonstoskipthehousework.com/diy-dump-truck/
For Construction Paper Truck Art Project, you need (1) scissors, (2) different colored construction paper, (3) glue, and (4) crayons/markers.
Directions:
- Cut circles, squares, rectangles and triangles out of colored construction paper
- On a sheet of construction paper, glue the pieces to shape a truck. (Wheels, body,…)
