Let’s sing together our song “Rise and Shine – Welcome to School Today” by Dr. Jean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyAD2OoFuoY and our greeting song “Hello to all the children of the world”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nYjGy_ZUG8

I realize that you might have to survey other members of your family for the question of the day so that your child have enough tally marks to count or have your child put more than one tally mark.

Which word starts with letter T?
TREE 🌲 TURTLE 🐢 HIPPO 🦛 TENT ⛺️

For the writing/reading process, have your child trace or copy (advanced skill) daily his/her name on paper/dry eraser board/ mini blackboard (kindergarten handwriting page) starting at the top of each letter (you could draw 🙂) either in all uppercase letters or just first letter in uppercase and the rest in lowercase.

Let us start with Talking Tess from Letterland and listen to the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcNyACBVitU After listening, show your child how to write a capital T and a lower case t (advanced) starting at the top (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJnZePnDo-U). Have your child first trace the letter(s) you wrote with one finger. Lowercase t writing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKrxgY2p5p0

A whole week activity:
For the phonetic part, have a big yogurt container with a lid filled with small objects or pictures that start with the letter T (table, teddy, telephone, ten, top, tractor.) You might want to add a picture of a hippo, so that your child can say that hippo does not start with T! Here is a book of T word pictures: https://twistynoodle.com/it-begins-with-t-minibook/ Also, you can add new objects/pictures starting with the letter T every day and let your child explore the container all through the week.

Science

Pumpkin Life Cycle with Little Boo by Stephen Wunderli https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW9ZoRSFEqw or It’s Pumpkin Time by Zoe Hall (advanced) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vV_YMKGb0EU and a sequencing activity for your child http://www.montessoriforeveryone.com/assets/PDF/Life_Cycle_of_a_Pumpkin.pdf

On the tune of “Oh, my Darling Clementine”, we can sing: what’s the weather, what’s the weather, what’s the weather like today? Is it cloudy, is it rainy, is it sunny, is it cold? (You can also change the weather words).
Let your child check the weather and tell you about it. You might want to ask your child to do a weather drawing that you can label. Some activities will be repetitive to create a routine that brings comfort to your child.

Language Arts

I have so many fun pumpkin books to read:

  1. The Runaway Pumpkin by Kevin Lewis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuOlNjnu2Gc
  2. Hello, Pumpkin by Mariann Cocoa-Leffler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TErYFoVImSc
  3. Splat the Cat and the Picking Pumpkin Project by Rob Scotton https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Npx-bryx46E

After viewing one book, help your child to sequence the story: what happened first, next and at the end. Brainstorm with your child what you can see or have seen on a trip to a pumpkin patch. I will schedule a virtual pumpkin patch field trip with videos, books and activities on the 3rd day!

Five Little Pumpkins Fingerplay

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate. (Show 5 fingers)
The first one said, “Oh my, it’s getting late!” (Show 1 finger)
The second one said, “There are witches in the air.”
The third one said, “but we don’t care!”
The fourth one said, “Let’s run and run and run.”
The fifth one said, “I’m ready for some fun!”
Ooo ooo went the wind, and out went the lights, (Move hands from left to right and clap your hands together)
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight! (Roll around with both hands)

“I’m a Little Pumpkin” Song (“I’m a Little Teapot” tune)

I’m a little pumpkin orange and round.
Here is my stem. I grew in the ground.
When I get all cut up, don’t you shout!
Just open me up and scoop me out!

The calendar is a daily activity to do with your child that develop number and pattern recognition. Here is the link to print a calendar to update daily with your child. The set has a weather component, if you like. https://www.themailbox.com/magazines/october-calendar-setbr4-pages/october-calendar-set-3

Daily counting of tally marks and show your child a number card or write the number down to show your child. The numbers of the tallies will be different every day. Extend the concept by comparing numbers: which has more? Which has fewer? Which are the same? How many more (count with fingers)?
